The Relationship Centre was originally formed in 2005 by Tom at his Harley Street, London Clinic. Although not at first seeking to work with couples, it gradually became more and more common for Tom to see many couples during his working week.

When in 2008, Tom and Tina became both life and business partners, they looked at developing a better way of working with couples, and explored many different approaches around the world to see what helped relationships most. Gradually they formed the way they work now, although they are still learning new and different approaches. Their ethos is not to sit back and just let couples argue in the therapy room, but to be proactive with the couple to help them develop the understanding and skills to move forward and build a better relationship.

In 2010, Tom retired the London Clinic, and they moved to the New Forest area as a way getting the lifestyle and environment to fulfil many of their needs in enjoying nature, the coast and open spaces. Since then the centre has quickly grown into a busy clinic, and much of their therapy is with couples from around the UK and worldwide.

When working with couples, they found time and time again the feedback they were getting was how many of the couples had received very poor relationship counselling in the past, which had done nothing to improve their relationship, and at times had put them off seeking further counselling. Tom and Tina had also in previous earlier relationships experienced couple counselling, and both found it unhelpful. In hindsight, after understanding counselling, they realised that the therapy they had received had not helped deal with the current issues or given the tools to be able to make changes. This is part of their drive to provide better counselling to help couples in the best way they can.
